I found an old bike polo pic in a book from 1906, Idrotten i Finlad (Sports in Finland) by Ivar Wilskman. The picture shows a game of polo in the Kaisaniemi park in Helsinki (Helsingfors Velocipedklubb).
It is raining today. I was watching some videos when I came across this sad, but well made video, in tribute to Daijiro Kato. I don't want to upset any Daijiro fans, I have been a fan of Road Racing as long as I can remember, and I respect what the riders do.
We have our own Road Racing hero in Finland also, Jarno Saarinen. He suffered his fatal crash already in 1973. He is still the only Finnish Road Racing World Champion. Currently Mika Kallio is doing his best in the MotoGP, riding for Ducati. Here is a video from the season Jarno won the World Championship (1972). The happy 70's...
The Sarpaneva Uhren Fabrik (SUF) has made a watch commemorating Jarno Saarinen. As you can see from the video the design is inspired by the helmet, and later on by the paint job of Jarnos Yamaha (1973).
I actually scratched this watch when I crashed last summer. It will cost some serious Euros to fix, I guess.
I like the 70's look. It goes nicely with my riding shoes also.
